    The Russian container market declined in 2022 - GBSI - Global Business Service Information

    Following the results of 8 months of 2022, the container market in Russia decreased by 15.6% to 3.624 million TEU compared to the same period in 2021, according to the Fesco transport group.
    According to the company, imports decreased by 16%, to 1.331 million TEU, and exports – by 21%, to 1.078 million TEU. Transit shipments of domestic shipments increased by 2% to 722 thousand TEU, and transit shipments by 22% to 493 thousand TEU.
    “By the end of August 2022, the market decreased by 13.4% compared to the same month last year, to 468.4 thousand TEU. At the same time, the market grew by 23% relative to July,” Fesco notes.
    They clarified that import shipments decreased by 5% compared to August 2021, while shipments through the Far East increased by 36%. Export shipments decreased by 27% compared to the same month last year. “At the same time, compared to July 2022, the growth was 13%. Exports through the Russian Far East increased by 24% compared to July 2022 and by 50% compared to August last year,” the group added.
    Transit shipments decreased by 16% compared to August last year, and increased by 53% compared to July 2022.
    Domestic transportation decreased by three percent compared to the same month last year, while compared to July 2022, the increase was five percent.
    The container market of Russia includes foreign trade and transit container turnover of Russian ports, foreign trade and transit container turnover of land crossings on the Russian Railways network, domestic container transportation on the Russian Railways network and coastal transportation.
